Red Bull Heavy Metal is a single-day street snowboard contest that features the most progressive rail riding in the world.
Following last winter’s event in Detroit, MI, the highly touted street jam is heading back to Minnesota, this time on the steps of the iconic St. Paul Capitol Building on February 10th, 2024.
You won’t want to miss this one! Viewing is free and open to the public.
While Red Bull Heavy Metal has previously been an invite-only contest, 2024’s event will mark the first time the competitor’s field has been open to the public with a Last Chance Qualifier being held at Buck Hill in Burnsville, MN on February 9th. More details around this qualifier will be released in January 2024.

Is the event free to attend
Yes, the event is free for spectators.
What time does the event start
Gates will open for spectators at 2pm and the competition will begin around 2:30pm.
I can’t make it to the event, will it be broadcast
A contest recap will be aired on ESPN2 at 9:00 PM CT on Sunday, February 25th.
Where at the Minnesota Capitol Building is the contest taking place
The first competition zone will be on the west side of the building. The second and third competition zones will be on the south side of the building on the front steps.
How to get here and where to park
There are a variety of parking options around the Capitol Building including parking ramps and metered parking. Please see a map of the surrounding area here: Capitol Complex Visitor Map. Please note that the stretch of John Ireland Blvd leading to the Capitol will be closed for the event and parking will there not be permitted. Will food be available
Yes, there will be food trucks parked on Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Boulevard with food and drink items for purchase.
Will alcohol be available
No, the State Capitol prohibits the consumption of alcohol on its premises
What should I bring
The event takes place outdoors so please dress appropriately. The following items are also allowed: collapsible chairs, blankets, baby strollers, food and beverages, binoculars, personal camera equipment.

Amenities include food and beverage sales, bathrooms, event partner exhibits, and event DJ & hosts.
Can I take photos of the event
Yes, personal photography of the event is permitted. Access to the course, however, will be restricted to credentialled personnel only.
The Riders
A trio of snowboarding legends, Tommy Gesme, Mikey Leblanc, and Mary Walsh have been tapped to judge the contest.
The confirmed rider list consists of male and female competitors from across North America and Europe. The mix of veterans and up-and-coming talent should make for quite an exciting contest.
