SAINT PAUL, Minn. – Visit Saint Paul, the city’s official convention & visitors bureau, announced today, Valentine’s Day, that Nolan and Bethanne Tobey from Wilmington, North Carolina are the winners of the ‘Most Romantic Getaway in North America’ giveaway and will receive a three-day, two-night getaway to Saint Paul, Minnesota.
On January 29, 2014, Saint Paul was named the “Most Romantic Getaway in North America” by 10Best and USA Today. To celebrate the honor, Saint Paul offered a free getaway to one lucky couple including airfare for two on Delta Air Lines, two nights at The Saint Paul Hotel and gift certificates to the Downtowner Woodfire Grill, Pazzaluna, The Liffey Irish Pub, Mickey’s Diner and other restaurants and attractions around town.
“This award is very exciting to us and it made us want to celebrate a little bit,” said Adam Johnson, Vice President of Marketing for Visit Saint Paul. “Our way of celebrating is showcasing our city and we are thrilled to make the Tobey’s Valentine’s Day a little extra special and to show them around Saint Paul when they arrive.”
The online contest drew nearly 5,000 entries and included an entrant from all 50 states.
“My husband and I got married a year and a half ago and we haven’t had a honeymoon,” said Bethanne Tobey, who discovered the giveaway on a contest website which led her to visitsaintpaul.com. “I’ve been telling him that I’m going to win us a honeymoon and now it has happened.”
The Tobeys, who are both teachers, plan to travel to Saint Paul this summer for a belated honeymoon. Neither of them have previously visited Saint Paul.
“We look forward to hosting the Tobeys,” said David Miller, General Manager of The Saint Paul Hotel. “Although this honeymoon is belated, we will do everything we can to make it feel like they were married the day before they arrive.”
