Black Garnet Books
Black Garnet Books is an independent bookstore that features a curated selection of books and art by authors and illustrators of color. The store was created by Saint Paul community member, Dionne Simmons, during the Summer of 2020 in direct response to state violence, as well as the absence of Black people from the literature community.
Come browse through the diverse collection of books for your next read, attend a community event or rent the space for your own gathering.
Joan’s in the Park | Restaurant
Led by Susan Dunlop and Joan Schmitt, Joan’s in the Park is a 40-seat, white tablecloth restaurant with the goal of providing a high-quality dining experience in St. Paul’s Highland Park neighborhood.
Serving up delicious, scratch-made food accompanied by a straightforward and approachable wine list, the duo cares true passion lies in providing warm hospitality and works very hard to make every guest’s experience a unique and memorable one.
Black Hart of Saint Paul | Sport's Bar
The Black Hart is a neighborhood, queer, and soccer bar in the Midway neighborhood of Saint Paul and is known as the oldest gay nightspot in the Twin Cities.
Not only is Black Hart an LGBTQ+ soccer bar conveniently located across from Allianz Field, but they also host popular drag shows, country line dancing, karaoke, theme nights accompanied by a small, but lively piano lounge.
Workhorse Coffee Bar | Coffee & Tea
Owned by partners Ty Barnett and Shannon Forney, Workhorse Coffee Bar is a craft coffee destination home to delicious vegan bakery items, seasonal specialties, signature coffee and teas, local bakery items and more.
Plus, just outside their front door you will the Smallest Museum in Saint Paul, a converted fire hose cabinet displaying community-inspired projects.
Prism Eye Care
Prism Eye Care is an independently owned small business that provides a personalized experience with quality glasses and contacts. The owner, Dr. Lauren K. Haverly, is a born and raised Minnesotan who calls the Macalester-Groveland neighborhood her home. In addition to her practice, she is a member of the American Optometric Association and the Minnesota Optometric Association—where she was named Young Optometrist of the Year and currently serves on the Board of Directors. Dr. Haverly also pays homage to her alma mater of The Ohio State University where she serves on its Optometry Alumni Society Board and was awarded the university's College of Optometry's Early Professional Achievement Award in 2022.
Urban Growler | Brewery
Founded in 2014 by the dream team Deb Loch and Jill Pavlak, Urban Growler® Brewing Company is the first women-owned microbrewery in Minnesota.
Their Saint Paul space features a bustling taproom and beer garden serving up an incredible mix of traditional and specialty brews with a local twist. With Deb as Master Brewer and Jill running the show, they both had one goal, to bring people together and create an inclusive community through beer with food and space for everyone.
